Mark Flaherty and Meredith Joyce are running for Metuchen Borough Council to save the borough we all love from overdevelopment and ever increasing taxes.
Meredith is a true local, born and raised in Edison with deep ties to the Metuchen community. As a child, she proudly played for the Metuchen-Edison Soccer Club, where practices took place at the former Franklin School field (currently Franklin Square) and summer tournaments were held at St. Joe’s High School. This experience in local sports became the foundation of her lifelong connection to our beloved “Brainy Borough,” where she also spent many summer days at the Metuchen Pool and always enjoyed the annual Metuchen Fair and Christmas Parade.
After graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. in International Studies and a minor in Economics from Norwich University, Meredith managed operations for a film production company in Los Angeles. After she married, she and her husband decided to settle in Metuchen to raise their family, where they have resided for the past 16 years. Her children also developed their love for sports in Metuchen, participating on teams with the Metuchen Soccer Club, Metuchen Youth Basketball, St Francis CYO Basketball, MMP Swim Team, Metuchen Baseball and Softball, Metuchen Floor Hockey, and of course Metuchen Flag Football! Additionally, her children loved their classes at the Westerhoff School of Music & Art in the Halsey lot.
Meredith has been active with the Metuchen Republicans for the past five years and currently serves as a committee person. Her strong local ties, leadership background, and dedication to family and community make her a passionate advocate for Metuchen’s future. She would love your vote so she can be a balancing voice on the council to help preserve the unique history and heartbeat of our borough as it modernizes while also helping to identify and reduce potential financial burdens on Metuchen’s tax paying residents. Mark is Chief Marketing Officer of a software company and is a director of the non-profit Citizens for New Jersey Election Integrity. He is a member of the Metuchen Knights of Columbus and the Metuchen Elks Lodge. Mark majored in economics, graduating cum laude from Princeton University, and then served an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Following that time, he earned an MBA with a concentration in marketing at Duke University. He and his wife moved to Metuchen 22 years ago.
